In the face of the current environmental challenges threatening human survival, there can be no sustainability without regenerating depleted natural resources and restoring ecosystem services. This means rebalancing our ecological footprint with the planetary biocapacity.
The event’s objective is to suggest that a systemic approach is the only way to tackle the catastrophic environmental crisis we are facing. This also requires a joint commitment by private companies, investors, civil society and governments.
We will discuss the limits of sustainability in tackling the loss of natural capital, highlighting the need to face the main causes of unsustainability, both social and economic, through a systemic approach. Together, we will recognize that planetary and demographic irreversible or long-term transformations do not allow only nature-based solutions but require a mix of nature and culture, through the joint contribution of science, technology, and human sciences.
